Advisory Committee
Best Practice in Surgery is overseen by an Advisory Committee which includes representatives from the academic departments, hospitals and other health care organizations. The Advisory Committee is co-chaired by Dr. Jim Rutka (Chair, Department of Surgery) and Dr. Robin McLeod (Vice Chair, Quality and Best Practices). Best Practice in Surgery working groups are created to develop and implement quality improvement projects. Generally, the working groups are multidisciplinary consisting of surgeons, fellows and residents from the relevant surgical disciplines at the University of Toronto as well as other members of the perioperative team including representatives from Anesthesia, Nursing, Nutrition, Physiotherapy, and other disciplines. As well, Best Practice in Surgery is always looking to collaborate with other organizations and/or programs to reduce duplication and strengthen our partnerships. The role of the Advisory Committee is to:
- Provide feedback on quality initiatives undertaken by Best Practice in Surgery
- Assist in identifying areas where there are gaps in care and where Best Practice in Surgery could play a role in developing and implementing quality initiatives
- Understand what quality initiatives are being undertaken in the hospitals and how the Best Practice in Surgery committee could play a role in spreading these initiatives
- Provide assistance to Best Practice in Surgery in the implementation of guidelines and other quality initiatives
- Provide feedback on our educational activities
